The Number One SEO Ranking Factor
On most of the websites I work with, Google search traffic accounts for well over 50% of traffic.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with SEO, it’s just the process of getting your site to show up when a user enters their query in Google.
And a quick Google search will show you the hundreds of factors that determine whether your site ranks well in Google.
Site speed, backlinks, keywords, SSL – these are all factors. And there are new factors being included in the Google algorithm all the time.
But there is one factor most people aren’t talking about.
In fact, I’d argue that in the long run, it is the most important factor in getting your site to rank.
To get this answer, we need to ask a simple question: What is Google trying to do?
When you search, what is Google trying to give you?
Simple: Google is trying to give you the best result for your query.
In order to do that, they use hundreds of factors to try and determine what the best result is. They do look at things like SSL, site speed, keywords, and backlinks.
But at the end of the day, if you want to win at SEO, you need to create the best result for the user query.
If you want to rank number one for any query, you need to be the best result.
If you’re trying to rank for “rental home in (your city)”, you better have a lot of rental homes listed on your site.
If you’re trying to rank for “car loan calculator”, you don’t need an article about a car loan calculator. You need the best car loan calculator on the web.
If you’re trying to rank for “plumbers in (your city)”, then you better have the best website and most detailed information about your plumbing services.
But being the best result takes hard work. It takes creativity. It takes commitment to develop the best content and tools.
People treat SEO like some sort of black magic. And sure, there are dozens of things to check to ensure a good site ranking.
But the truth is, if you want to greatly improve your chances of winning in the long run, you need to make sure you’re providing the user the best result for the query.
Start there and then do “SEO”. Don’t try to win without creating awesome content. It’s an uphill battle you’re going to lose.
