In case you missed it, there is a boycott of Facebook Ads happening right now by a lot of big brands.
Here are some of the top stories I just pulled up on Google news:
Disney, Walmart, McDonalds, and dozens of other household name brands have slashed or completely shut-off their Facebook ads in July (and many through the fall and into the end of the year).
The stated reason is to put pressure on Facebook to reign in hate speech. (Although the truth is also that these brands likely weren’t getting a good ROI on the spend and this was a convenient excuse to stop spending while building clout and generating buzz…).
I don’t know if you have strong feelings about Facebook and hate speech debate. If you do, I can totally understand you not wanting to advertise on the platform.
That said, all that ad inventory is now available to small businesses for far cheaper than it was before. As millions of dollars are pulled away, costs will go down in the ad auctions. This means you and I have a unique opportunity to purchase that inventory at a reduced cost to drive additional sales and revenue for our businesses.
I’m not a fan of any kind of hate speech, but as a small business owner, opportunities like this are extremely rare and unique. If you don’t want to spend on Facebook, I totally get it.
But if you’ve been priced out of Facebook for a while, now might be a great time to consider jumping in. I don’t know how long this opportunity will last, but I wouldn’t be your friend if I didn’t point it out to you.
If you’d like some help getting started, don’t be afraid to reach out to us. Because there is a right way to do Facebook ads (that most big brands aren’t doing anyway). We’d be happy to help you put a plan together.
