Your Ads Suck
Let’s be honest, almost all your ads suck.
And many of the ads I write suck.
It’s not because I want them to, but it’s because I’m still learning about people.
This is a major problem in marketing. I spent 4 years in undergrad (and earned an MBA on top of that).
I spent hundreds of hours in marketing classes and MBA courses.
And guess what: I never learned to write a great ad.
The fundamental of marketing is persuasion. And persuasion isn’t something that gets taught in marketing classes today.
And almost all of us miss it. I meet with clients, and they’re excited about new platforms (“We want to get ads on Snapchat!!!”), but they don’t ever think about what goes in the ads.
Good persuasion is fundamental to good advertising.
Your ads are empty without it.
If you send thousands of visits to your site and no one converts, you have a persuasion problem.
Ads send traffic. But it’s up to you and your offer to convert the traffic.
And this is where a lot of marketers fall down.
“We sent lots of traffic to the site!” But no one bought anything. No one donated. And no one converted.
Tools are great. But if you don’t have the fundamentals down, it’s not going to be worth much to you.
So study psychology. Study persuasion. And study copywriting.
Knowing how to post a Facebook ad is useful, but most 10-year-olds can figure that out.
Instead, focus on understanding people.
If you can persuade people to do something, you’ll be successful.
It’s as simple as that.
