Don’t Let Your IT Company Build Your Website 🤓🤓🤓
And this isn’t a dis on IT companies.
But there’s a really good reason not to let your IT company build your website.
You may be thinking, “But Tyler, isn’t a website technology? Therefore shouldn’t they be the best?”
Well, yes, a website is “technology”, but it’s first a marketing tool.
Let me repeat: Your website is primarily a part of your marketing.
It is to serve as an online salesman – a digital storefront to draw people in, sell products, and services, and help your customers.
Yes, it does use technology to do that.
But websites must be human and business-centric. The technology is only there to help you achieve your business goals.
Therefore, before you have a conversation about platform, cost, or technology, you need to have a conversation about goals.
What do we want the website to accomplish?
And what is the best way to do that?
Those are business decisions.
And if you’re like most businesses, the answer to the first question is probably “sell more products”.
So you need someone to help on the website that understands digital marketing, copywriting, sales, lead generation, ads, SEO, and social media.
You need a team with the knowledge to accomplish those goals.
There’s no doubt in my mind that your IT team is talented.
And they are probably good at website technology.
But they probably aren’t very good at marketing.
And your website is the foundation of your marketing.
So make sure you get it right.
